January Wrap-Up

It’s hard to believe that the first month of 2017 is over!! It went by so fast, but I still managed to read 8 books this month even with starting up grad school again so I very happy with that.

So here is what I read this month:

  1. Rule Breaker by Harper Kincaid – 3.5/5 stars
  2. Heart Breaker by Harper Kincaid – 2/5 stars
  3. Girl Breaker by Harper Kincaid – 4/5 stars

I started the year off by reading a new series which is one of my reading goals for 2017. The Break on Through series by Harper Kincaid was a lot of fun to read, full of dominating men, a bit of drama, and a lot of heart. While I enjoyed the first and third books much more than the second, the series as a whole was entertaining as hell especially the third book which had my favorite couple Jessica and Max. As a series, I would give it a solid 3.5/5 stars. Plus, can I just say, those covers are gorgeous.

4.  The Troublemaker Next Door by Marie Harte – 3.5/5 stars

This is the first book in the McCauley Brothers series and I picked this up because I actually own the last three books in the series. My plan was to read the first two books so that I was able to read at least one book off of my bookshelf this month as that is another one of my reading goals but alas I only managed to read the first one. The Troublemaker Next Door was such a great introduction into this series as you meet each of the McCauley Brothers and start to fall in love with them. I can’t wait for the second book in the series because the girl who falls in love writes romance novels for a living.

5.  Big Shot by Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde – 4.5/5 stars

I was so excited to get my hands on this book because not only is one of my all time favorite authors, Carly Phillips, a co-author but after reading their Dirty Sexy series, I knew this duo would give me another hot romance to completely obsess over, and they did! This was my second favorite read of the month, further solidifying Carly Phillips as an auto-buy author for me. I can’t wait for the second book in the series.

6.  Dirty Dealers by Tia Louise – 3/5 stars

This book’s description is what had me jumping at the chance to participate in blog tour for it and while its story turned out to not be what I thought it would be it was still a wild ride involving drug lords, kidnapping, and a second chance romance. If this looks at all interesting to you, I definitely recommend you read the Dirty Players duet first as this is a sort of spin-off of that duology and its characters.

7. Heartbreaker by Stacey Kennedy – 5/5 stars

Ah, now for my favorite read of this month which also almost has an identical title to a book I read earlier in the month. While that title fell flat for me, Heartbreaker leapt off the page as I gave my heart to Maddox and Joss, more Maddox than Joss tbh. This is one steamy romance that grabbed me from the very first page and introduced me to another author who will be on my radar from now on. If you like your romance with a little kink in it, then definitely check this one out.

8. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton – 4/5 stars

My last read of the month was one for my teen collections class and it is a very well known classic as many people probably had to read it in high school. I was not one of those people so this was my first time reading it and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I didn’t know what to expect when I first started but as the story progressed I got more and more into the characters especially Ponyboy our narrator. I can see why this is such a beloved book and I am really interested to see how the movie compares to the book.

Overall, it was a solid first month reading wise. While I didn’t have many five star reads, I still read books that stayed with me in some way whether that was a character, a couple, or just a particular scene which is good enough for me. Plus I read 4 books that I were on my TBR. Of course, there were 14 on it in total but I am just going to forget that little detail…

Hope everyone else had a good reading month.

Now onto February…

happy-2
