Stacking the Shelves [8]

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews where book lovers share what books they got throughout the week!

So… I didn’t stick to my goal of under 10 like last week but, in my defense, there were a LOT of good sales this week and some are still on.

**Dear Mr. Black and its sequel, Forever, Mr. Black, are both on sale for $2.51 each at the time of this posting if anyone is interested. It is an older man/younger woman romance where the girl is attracted to her best friend’s widowed father.

**The Clover Chapel is currently FREE at the time of this posting. I have heard nothing but amazing things about this series and now I have the first two books.

**Prisoner is currently FREE at the time of this posting. I’ve been in the mood for a dark romance recently so I am glad I have this.

**Take Me Back is currently on sale for $.99 at the time of this posting. That cover alone made me want to get this book. That, and I am collecting Meghan March’s books.

**Stinger is currently on sale for $.99 at the time of this posting. Another Mia Sheridan book for my collection. (still need to read one though lol)

**The Hot Shot is currently on sale for $.99 at the time of this posting. The Game On series is a fantastic new adult sports romance series and I am SO happy that I now have the 4th book.

**Darker Water is currently on sale for $.99 at the time of this posting. A friends-with benefits story inspired by The Frog Prince which sounded so interesting I had to get it.

**Blush Pink Rose is currently FREE at the time of this posting. It is the prequel to a new dark romance series written by Willow Winters under her new pen name, Fawn Bailey.

**Royal Player is currently FREE at the time of this posting. Umm… the British bad boy of tennis… yes, please!

**Love in Lingerie is currently on sale for $.99 until TOMORROW (2/12). I have wanted this book since it came because that cover is GORGEOUS and it is Alessandra Torre.

**All sales listed were found on Amazon**

With that being said, I highly recommend you take advantage of some of these sales if you can because they are pretty freaking great.

Blog Tour + Review: Runaway Groom by Lauren Layne

RUNAWAY GROOM
I Do, I Don’t – Book 2
Lauren Layne
Releasing Jan 30, 2018
Loveswept

For one charming playboy, getting cast on a Bachelor-esque reality TV show is the shock of a lifetime—until he finds love where he least expects it. And now the chase is on!
Gage Barrett’s reputation as a ladies’ man has been greatly exaggerated, but none of that matters after a drunken bet lands him on Jilted, a reality TV show that matches runaway grooms with wannabe brides. Now he’s stuck at a Hawaiian resort with nineteen women competing to drag him back to the altar—and one contestant who’s even more miserable than he is. Gage has no idea how feisty, independent Ellie Wright wound up in the cast, but it’s obvious she hates his guts. And if there’s one thing Gage likes, it’s a challenge. . . .
Ellie can’t believe she let her best friend talk her into exchanging her dignity for a glorified bikini contest. Still, she could use the exposure—her business is struggling—and she’ll probably be one of the first to get eliminated anyway. But Gage isn’t the shallow jerk Ellie anticipated—and he’s in no rush to send her home. As stolen kisses turn into secret trysts, she finds herself losing track of what’s real and what’s for the camera. With the wedding finale looming, this runaway groom is tempting Ellie to start believing in storybook endings.

I discovered Lauren Layne last year and it was one of the best reading discoveries of the year. I picked up Walk of Shame on a whim and it ended up being one of my top favorite books of the 2017. So, when I got the opportunity to review Runaway Groom, which takes place on a Bachelor-esque reality dating show, I didn’t hesitate for a second.

Gage Barrett, after losing a bet with his friend, is the next runaway groom to find love on Jilted. Twenty women will be vying for his attention in the hopes that at the end of the show one of them will be able to get him to say “I do” and become his wife. While Gage definitely fits the label of runaway groom, having left two women at the altar already, this is absolutely THE LAST THING that he wants to be doing right now. Except, that starts to change when one of the women doesn’t have hearts in her eyes when she looks at him and it seems like she would rather be anywhere else than stuck on a Hawaiian resort.

“I can’t hide the grin. Ellie really doesn’t like me. Nor does she want to be here. It’s… refreshing.”

I loved that both Gage and Ellie were against being on Jilted. It flipped the script a little  and brought some originality to the story which I really appreciated. But it was the banter between Gage and Ellie that stole the show for me. Ellie’s resistance to Gage at the beginning and the flirty jabs they would throw at one another were hilariously entertaining. The sparks were there from the start but it was the friendship that grew between them over the course of the show that elevated their relationship that much more for me.

“Just once, I want someone I care about to look at the crapshoot that is my life, to take in the Jilted contract and the Killboy movie shoots and the never-ending tabloid rumours and say, ‘yeah, that stuff sucks, but Gage is worth it’. I want to be worth it. Just once.”

Gage was such a sweetheart! Yes, he has this reputation as a ladies’ man being this famous actor and all, but Gage as a person is more than just a pretty face. Despite his charms and cocky remarks, a past heartbreak still haunts him. But as his feelings grow for Ellie, Gage hopes that she will be able to look past his Hollywood status and all the glamour that comes with it. I was rooting for him the entire time even when Ellie was being a little reluctant. Ellie’s resistance and wariness was warranted at first but over time it got to be a little old. Ellie is a strong-minded, independent woman who stays true to herself on the show, using any opportunity to get exposure for her business but I think at a certain point it was working against especially once her feelings for Gage became more and more apparent.

“I’m real, Ellie.”
You’re Hollywood.
“You’re right. Which equates to no brain, no substance, and I just bleed air, right?”

The direction of how the story unfolds was also something I really enjoyed because it was not what I had anticipated. We got see a good portion of the filming of Jilted and the behind-the-scenes antics with the girls which was so much fun. There was a nice mix of cattiness and craziness from the other contestants in regards to the lengths they would go to get Gage’s attention. But the second half of the book took an interesting turn, breaking up a little of the predictability for me which lead to a wonderful ending.

Overall, Runaway Groom was a ton of fun and everything I was hoping for from a Lauren Layne book. If you like The Bachelor or any shows like that, then you will love this book!

Waiting on Wednesday [7]

This is a meme hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine where every Wednesday bloggers showcase a book that they are eagerly waiting for!

Down With Love (Love Wars #1)
by Kate Meader
Publication Date: August 7th, 2018

UnknownSparks fly when the hot-shot divorce lawyer meets the high-powered wedding planner. The only question is, what kind?

If you ever get married, remember my name: Max Henderson. In my line of work, you acquire a certain perspective on supposedly everlasting unions. . . .

1. Pre-nups are your friend.
2. The person you married is not the person you’re divorcing.
3. And I hope you didn’t spend much on the wedding because that was one helluva waste of hard-earned cash, wasn’t it?

But some guys are willing to take a chance. Like my brother, who thinks he’s going to ride off into the sunset with the woman of his dreams in a haze of glitter on unicorns. And the wedding planner—the green-eyed beauty who makes a living convincing suckers to shell out thousands of dollars on centerpieces—is raking it in on this matrimonial monstrosity.

The thing is, Charlie Love is not unlike me. We’re both cogs in the wedding-industrial complex. As the best man, I know her game—and I can play it better than her. But after one scorching, unexpected kiss, I’m thinking I might just want to get played.

How did I not know that Kate Meader was coming out with another book this year besides the ones in her Chicago Rebels series!?!!? AND, it is the first book in a new series involving cynical divorce lawyers. UMMM, YES PLEASE!! 2018 just keeps getting better and better lol.

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews where book lovers share what books they got throughout the week!

I did very well this week, and by that I mean I got less than 10 books lol.

E-Books

I pre-ordered The Upside of Being Single and The Beau & The Belle because both sound amazing and have beautiful covers. A majority of the others were either free through author’s newsletters or on sale.

**Wicked Favor by Sawyer Bennett is currently FREE at the time of this posting. This is a spin-off series of The Wicked Horse series that takes place in Vegas.

**Something in the Way by Jessica Hawkins is currently FREE at the time of this posting. The first book in what I have heard to be a very emotional series.

**Ruckus by LJ Shen is currently on sale for 99 cents at the time of this posting. After reading Midnight Blue and loving it, I jumped at the chance to own another book by this author.

**It Ain’t Me, Babe by Tillie Cole is currently on sale for 99 cents at the time of this posting. The other books in Hades Hangmen series are also on sale, each book is $1.99.

February TBR

Time for another overly ambitious TBR! No, but seriously, this is the shortest month of the year and I thought having 11 books on this month’s TBR would be totally doable. Who am I?? Like, do I not remember I am in my last semester of grad school?

But, let’s be honest, I will always have overly ambitious TBRs because I want to read ALL THE BOOKS. It’s that simple. So, while I am working my ass off this month on classes, it looks like I will be reading my ass off too lol. And, all the books are romance because A) I love me some romance and B) it seems appropriate since Valentine’s Day is this month.

So, let’s get into the books that are on my TBR this month…

1. Runaway Groom by Lauren Layne
2. About That Kiss by Jill Shalvis
3. Hold on Tight by J. Kenner
4. The One Who Got Away by Roni Loren
5. This Love Story Will Self-Destruct by Leslie Cohen
6. The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory
7. By the Book by Julia Sonneborn
8. Hello Stranger by Lisa Kleypas
9. Driving Whiskey Wild by Melissa Foster
10. King of the Court by Melanie Munton
11. No Tomorrow by Carian Cole (cover not revealed yet)

What about you? What books are on your TBR for February?
Let’s talk about it in the comments below!

January Wrap Up

On the one hand, I can’t believe the first month of 2018 is over and on the other hand, I can’t believe how long January felt. It seemed like it just kept going and going lol. But I was actually happy about that because it let me squeeze in a few more books. Always a win, in my opinion. I was able to read 8 books this month which I was super happy about since it is the most I have read in a while.

Here are the books I read this month:

Brooklynaire
by Sarina Bowen
Publication Date: February 12, 2018

unnamedA sexy new stand-alone from USA Today bestseller Sarina Bowen

You’d think a billion dollars, a professional hockey team and a six-bedroom mansion on the Promenade would satisfy a guy. You’d be wrong.

For seven years Rebecca has brightened my office with her wit and her smile. She manages both my hockey team and my sanity. I don’t know when I started waking in the night, craving her. All I know is that one whiff of her perfume ruins my concentration. And her laugh makes me hard.

When Rebecca gets hurt, I step in to help. It’s what friends do. But what friends don’t do is rip off each others’ clothes for a single, wild night together.

Now she’s avoiding me. She says we’re too different, and it can never happen again. So why can’t we keep our hands off each other?

Ummm, I don’t know about you but that cover is GORGEOUS!!! I mean, try looking at that cover and to not have the urge to get your hands on it ASAP because that is literally what happened to me. Now, I haven’t read any of the other books in the Brooklyn Bruisers series (I do own the first one though) but that issue will be resolved as soon as possible because this book will be read by the end of this year.

Excerpt

Alexa danced with Lauren, letting the movement and the laughter shake away her annoying thoughts. When she felt a hand on her waist, she turned to see Drew behind her and laughed again, at how ridiculous the evening had been and how much fun she was suddenly having. He took ahold of one of her hands and swung her around to face him and laughed back down at her. Other members of the wedding party joined their group and danced with and around them, but song after song came on, and he never moved from her side.

“Water?” he said in her ear after they’d been on the dance floor for a long time.

“Yes, please.” She walked with him over to the bar.

She glanced up at the ornate clock over the bar, surprised at how late it had gotten. And how much she didn’t want this night to end. Damn it, it had been fun to be Drew’s fake girlfriend, but she knew that once the clock struck midnight, so to speak, the fairy tale would be all over.

He leaned against the bar, his jacket off, his bow tie untied, a little sweaty and disheveled from dancing. Good Lord, this guy was hot.

He rolled up his sleeves, exposing his tan forearms. She wanted to run her fingers up and down them and feel how warm and strong they were.

She needed to stop letting her imagination run away with her.

“Um,” she said. “It’s getting late, and if I want to make the last BART train back to the East Bay, I should probably leave pretty soon.”

Why had she said that? Why, when she was standing next to a hot guy, basically panting over him? If she was Maddie, hell, if she was Amy, she would have grabbed one of those hot forearms and wrapped it around her body, letting him know what she wanted without having to say anything. Sadly, she was Alexa, so she would flee instead.

He put his water bottle down and looked at her.

“Okay.”

“Okay,” she said. Olivia and Maddie would get mad at her for not throwing herself at him, but they didn’t understand that she just didn’t know how. Plus, rejection from this guy was the last thing her self-esteem needed. Talk about the opposite of getting back on the horse; that would make her avoid horses, and stables, and all farm animals for another few years. So to speak.

He stepped closer to her and put his hand on her waist. Her hand landed on his arm, and, without even meaning to, she ran her fingers up and down. Oh God, touching him like this was as good as she’d thought it would be.

“Or”—he looked straight down into her eyes—“you could stay.”

A question was in his eyes, and a smile hovered over his lips. His thumb drew slow circles on her hip and then moved up her side to her ribs. His other hand moved up to her face and traced the outline of her lips with his fingers.

She shivered.

He waited.

“Or,” she said, “I could stay.”

Stacking the Shelves [6]

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews where book lovers share what books they got throughout the week!

Ok, so this might be cheating but since I didn’t get a chance to do a Stacking the Shelves last week, I will be showing you the books I got over the past two weeks instead of just this week. Oh, and as you can see, I broke my book buying ban and bought some books at  one of my favorite thrift stores near my apartment.

E-ARC’s

I received Driving Whiskey Wild  and Hold on Tight for review and was approved for Ace of Spades on Netgalley, which is the third book in the Aces & Eights series.

E-Books

**All of these books were either free or only 99 cents at the time I got them. **

  • Worth the Risk is still currently FREE at the time of this posting if anyone is interested. The heroine is a scientist which you do not see that often in romance and one of the reasons I picked this up.
  • Unloved is still 99 cents at the time of this posting if anyone is interested. This looks like a super emotional romance and I can’t wait to get to it.
  • The Dark Light of Day is currently FREE at the time of this posting! This is a prequel to the King series which I have heard AMAZING things about so I snatched this one up. If you like dark romances, check this out as well as T.M. Frazier’s other books.

Physical Books

The plan was to just get ONE book but I failed miserably because I found all of these books and I couldn’t pass up the chance to get them. Not to pick favorites, but A Hopeless Romantic and Attachments are probably the ones I am most excited about.

Those are ALL of the books I got over the last two weeks AKA a super crazy amount of books. But, of course, I don’t mind because at the end of the day getting more books is one of my favorite things. #lifeasabookworm
