Kissed by Water
The Watchtower Chronicles #3
By: Delwyn Jenkins
Releasing September 24, 2015
Momentum
Kissed By WaterCharlotte McLaren is tired of being the good girl – the shy, gentle soul that everyone tiptoes around in case she startles. She wants to be strong and decisive, as powerful and independent as her Witch-sisters. She’s determined to join in the fight against their enemy and to do that she has to challenge everything she’s been taught to believe.

Tristan, a Watchtower Knight, has spent three agonizing months locked in a hell of dark magic – and he emerges a changed man. No longer fun and carefree, there’s a darkness in him now that stalks and prowls, just waiting to escape. A darkness he’s desperate to keep from everyone he cares about, especially the lovely Charlotte.

But his water Witch lures him with her innocence and determination, making demands he’s not sure he can fulfill. His honor demands he walk away, but his heart already knows it’s too late.

First off, let me say that this is the first book that I have read in The Watchtower Chronicles and due to that my understanding of the world and the characters was not as well rounded as opposed to if I had read the previous two novels. With that being said though, I was still able to get swept up in this fantastical world full of strong, badass Witches and their sexy, chivalrous Watchtower Knights. It is because of this that I fully intend to read the previous two novel and continue on with the series.
Before I get to the protagonists of this action-packed fantasy romance, I just want to gush on how amazingly detailed the world was. As a reader who has no previous knowledge or context of the world in The Watchtower Chronicles, I very much appreciated how much detail was provided by the author not only in the beginning of the novel but also throughout. In fantasy books such as these, the world building is a key component because without it the reader is lost and confused in regards to what is going on. That is not the case here at all. From the first chapter you are sucked in, as you are introduced to Tristan and the agony he is facing given the circumstances he is in. Not long after that you are introduced to Charlotte, who is a water Witch, and from there you learn about the magic system in the book which, I absolutely loved! The idea of the Quatre and how it is made up of four Witches, each who possess the powers of one of the 4 elements (air, earth, fire, water) was so fascinating to me especially given the fact that they, as women, are viewed as the ones who truly hold the power. Strong, capable women characters are something I adore reading about because you just instinctively root for them from the very beginning no matter what.
I also loved the concept of where Charlotte and her Quatre lived and studied the harnessing of their powers. The Collegium is basically just like a magical college but it is interesting that it located in the World Between, which is  another realm that exists next to but separate from the real world. In the Collegium, the time period is pushed back from modern times as technology is banned and the Witches must where laced bodices and long full skirts instead of normal clothes one would expect. The modern world make an appearance once or twice in the novel which is so intriguing to picture given how different the elements in both worlds are when positioned side by side.
And now for Charlotte and Tristan, whose love for one another has grown over the span of the first two books and comes to a pivotal point in this novel. It is clear the lengths these two will go for each other, even if they are resistant to admit their feelings for each other, due to the fact that Charlotte risks her life in the beginning pages of the book in order to get Tristan out of the turmoil he is in. I will say, that  I had to keep in mind that Tristan and Charlotte’s love story most likely began in small moments throughout the first two books so the degree of love they have for one another in this book has already developed quite far. This context was important for me because I did not want to write off their love as insta-love because it clearly wasn’t. You could see the just how much they cared for one another especially in Charlotte’s actions in the first few chapters. They risked their lives for one another without hesitation and I found that to be so noble and so captivating.
Tristan has definitely changed from who he was in the first two books which makes me want to go back and read how he was in the first two books. Regardless of that, you still get to see glimpses of the old him especially when he is seducing Charlotte, who by all means is described as the good girl who does what is expected of her. Their dynamic together was so entertaining to read especially when shy Charlotte turned badass and stood up to Tristan, telling him not to assume that he knows what she wants. I was able to relate to Charlotte through her personality traits of being shy and not wanting to attract attention to herself but I also was so proud of her when she took control and put Tristan in his place. Overall, their relationship stands the test of time as obstacles are put in their way. As the reader, all you can do is hold your breath and root for them to fight past them and be together.
You’ve got an imaginative, unique magic system and world, a romance that will capture your heart, and even a battle of good versus evil that will leave you on the edge of your seats. These are just some of the reasons why you should not hesitate to go and pick up this spectacular fantasy romance novel by Dewlyn Jenkins.

Tristan followed Charlotte to the tables set up in the dappled shadows of the roof garden. Waiting until she took her seat Tristan pulled out a chair and sat next to her. She leaned on the table, turned her head slightly to look at him and his gut churned in an unsettling prescience.
She licked her lips – a nervous habit he normally found endearing. Right now it just set him on edge. “Tristan, I want to ask you something.”
No. He knew what she was going to ask and he couldn’t let the words leave her lips. He was afraid if she gathered the courage to make the request he wouldn’t be able to deny her. And he had to.
“Charlotte, I can’t.” He fisted his hands in his lap so he didn’t reach for her. “I’m so sorry.”
The dejected slump of her shoulders was akin to a slap, and he felt the pain of it right down to his soul. She took three breaths, then four, and on the fifth she straightened her spine and looked him in the eye. “I haven’t actually asked anything yet.”
“You don’t need to.” His heart slammed against his ribs and the need to say yes warred with the necessity of saying no. “I can only think of one thing that would charge your energy with that particular mix of fear, determination and want. You intend to trigger your Quickening, and with the connection we’ve forged, you’re considering me as a partner.”
She stared at him and he sat quietly, allowing her the time to come up with a considered response.
“Do you have any idea how hard this is for me?” Her voice was steady but her agitation rolled off her in waves.
“Yes, I do.” Before he could stop himself, he reached out and he placed his hand over hers. “I know you, Charlotte, your strengths and frailties. You don’t want to be left behind by Kam and Mycah and you don’t want to be the weak link in your Quatre.”
There were so many reasons he was a bad choice for her – he was a womanizer, incapable of forming relationships that lasted more than a couple days. He was a Knight, bound to the service of the Watchtower and compelled to live his life in the World Between. Charlotte deserved someone who could be there for her, who could commit to her in the way she deserved.
And knowing all that, he still would have been bastard enough to say yes before his foray into the dark. Regardless of the sensible reasons they were wrong for each other, right now the only thing keeping him in check was his need to protect her from the darkness.
He couldn’t tell her that, of course. So he stuck with the most obvious truth. “You need a male who will care for you, Char. One who will lead the dance slow and easy, who won’t push you further than you want to go.”
Charlotte’s mouth dropped and the look of horror on her face froze the words on his tongue. Jerking out of his grasp she lurched to her feet, knocking her chair to the ground and panting as if she’d run a mile.
“You total idiot. You don’t see me at all, do you?” She took a couple of unsteady steps and her voice rose.

“Do you think that’s who I am? Some timid rabbit that has to be led around on a ribbon because she’s too stupid and cowardly to go after what she wants?”

“What? No, of course not –”
“Be quiet! I’m talking now.”
Tristan clamped his mouth shut. Charlotte may not be a timid rabbit, but she was no lion either. The fact that she was angry enough to yell at him told him just how far he’d missed the mark.
She stalked closer, her body almost vibrating with rage. It was Charlotte as he’d never seen her and he had no idea what to make of it. Leaning down, she placed her hands on the arms of his chair and lowered her face until they were eye to eye.
“What I want,” she said, her voice low and seething, “is to live. I want passion and excitement. I want to dance in the rain and kiss in the moonlight. I want reckless and edgy, not boring and safe. A lot of things changed while you were asleep, Tristan the Seducer. Don’t presume to know me or what I want anymore.”
Charlotte spun away from him and stalked across the lawn and down the stairs. Tristan was so shocked, so utterly gobsmacked, he did nothing but watch her go. If his sweet Charlotte turned wild and reckless, he had no idea how he was going to resist taking her to bed – no matter how necessary that resistance might be.

Blog Tour: Sing Your Heart Out

Ready for another blog tour?

If you like romances with a bad boy rocker and emotionally charged characters, check down below for all the important info and goodies aka a giveaway 🙂

SingYourHeartOut-lg (1)Sing Your Heart Out by Crystal Kaswell
(Sinful Serenade #1)
Publication date: Fall 2015
Genres: New Adult, Romance

Good girls don’t date rockstars.
They certainly don’t take rock stars as fuck buddies.

Still a virgin at 21, Meg Smart walks a straight and narrow path. She aces her classes, excels at her part time job, and carefully avoids the black hole that is mourning her sister. There’s no room in her life for trouble–no drinks, no drugs, and especially no boyfriends.

Fine with Miles.

Rock star Miles Webb doesn’t do boyfriend. He doesn’t do intimacy, or love, or anything that isn’t effortless and casual. The only time the singer reveals himself is on stage. His gorgeous, tortured voice hints at the kind of unspeakable pain Meg understands all too well. Only the second he steps off stage he transforms into a cocky, know-it-all player.
Their chemistry is red-hot. He’s tattooed, tall, and totally irresistible. She can’t handle a one-night stand, and a relationship is totally out of the question.
That only leaves one option:
Friends with benefits.
Just sex. Just fun.
No secrets, no feelings, no falling in love.
Only neither one of them can quite abide by the terms.

Excerpt:

I try to make small talk, but nothing comes to me. Instead, I press my back into the seat and watch the city fly by the windows.
“You want the Wilshire exit of the 405.”
“That all?”
“Yes. That’s all.”
“Nothing else you’d like to discuss?”
I play with the seatbelt. “We’re friends by association, so how about we agree never to discuss this again? I am sorry, and it was an accident.”
A smug smile spreads across his face. “I can’t agree to that.”
“Why not?”
“You’re too cute when you blush.”
“I’m not cute.” I bite my tongue so I don’t snap. “Let’s pretend it never happened.”
“If it bothers you that much.” He stops at a red light. “But it’s not a big deal. Nothing you haven’t done before.”
Right. Because I’m a twenty-one-year-old college senior. And no normal college senior is quite so sexually inexperienced.
“Of course,” I say.
Miles looks at me. That smug smile gets wider. He says nothing, but he’s practically screaming with his eyes.
I try my most confident voice. “I’m very experienced. I had a boyfriend last year.”
“There’s no shame in being a virgin.”
“I know, but I’m not.”
He raises his eyebrow.
“It’s not really any of your business.”
The light turns green. Miles steps on the gas. Changes gears until he’s going way over the speed limit. “What’s your favorite sexual position?”
“I’d rather not discuss that with a stranger.”
“What happened to us being friends by association?”
A compelling point. I shrug like I’m as unaffected as he is. “Missionary.”
He turns to me for a second, shaking his head. “Now, I know you’re lying. I’ve never met a girl who wanted to do missionary.”
“Out of the ten thousand girls you’ve screwed, none wanted to do missionary?”
“Not one.” He stops short at a yellow light. “If you want your first time to be good, I’m happy to throw you a bone.”
“Excuse me?”
His eyes find mine. His expression is the epitome of cocky. “You do want to fuck me.”
“I do not.”
He shakes his head. “You do. The way you were staring at me in the living room–you were picturing me naked.”
“Because I saw you naked. I couldn’t help it.”
“Mhmm.” The light turns green and he slams on the gas. He turns the corner and speeds onto the freeway onramp. “And now you’re thinking about it.”
“I’m not.”
“I’m better than whatever you’re imagining.”
“Did you even know that girl’s name?”
“Yeah.”
“What was it?”
“Stephanie. Pretty sure it was Stephanie.” He shrugs. “It’s just sex. You’d know if you ever–“
“Whatever.” I cross my legs. “I don’t need your pity sex offer.”
“There’d be no pity about it,” he says.
That same blush spreads across my cheeks. “What do you mean?”
His eyes turn towards me. “I want to fuck you, too.”
“There’s no ‘too.’ I do not want to have sex with you.”
He smirks.
I bite my tongue. It’s only getting me into trouble.
We drive in silence for a few minutes. It’s too much, so I turn the car radio on. It’s tuned to KROQ and, God help me, the station is playing a Sinful Serenade song. The vocals are a low moan, a sound meant to express an extreme outpouring of emotion. I can’t get past the moan. Is that what Miles sounds like when he’s mid orgasm?
My cheeks are still scalding. They’ve been hot for the last fifteen minutes. I scramble to change the station. The next preset is another rock station. That won’t do. There. The oldies station is sure to be free of Miles’s voice.
He laughs. “You’re cute when you’re nervous.”
“I’m not nervous.” I fold my arms over my chest. “Just not in the mood to listen to rock music.”
“Mhmm.”
Whatever. I watch the sky whiz by outside the windows. The rest of the drive, I only open my mouth to give Miles directions. It
feels like an eternity passes, but, finally, we arrive at Kara’s apartment.
I help her out of the car and up the stairs. I fish through her purse for her keys.
She looks at me with concern. “Thanks for coming out, but Meg–“
“Yeah?”
Her gaze drifts to Miles. “Be careful. I know Miles is cute, but he’s a heart breaker.”
“Drink some water.”
“Seriously. Not worth the trouble. Okay?”
“Since when have I found any guy worth the trouble?” I ask.
She steps into her apartment. “You’re looking at him like he’s way worth it.”
“You’re imagining things.”
She shakes her head, certain she has the right idea about things.
I shrug, attempting an effortlessly cool expression. It does nothing to convince her.
“Goodnight.” She shuts the door.
I turn around and rush down the steps. Now it’s not just this Miles guy who’s certain of my attraction. My best friend is in on it, too.
I set my foot on the last step, only it’s not the last step. It’s the ground. I try to steady myself, but it’s not good. I go down, landing on all fours.
Ow. I inspect my wrists and knees. Nothing serious except for some scraped skin. Nothing a washcloth and a Band-Aid won’t fix.
Someone offers his hand. Must be Miles. Fine. I take it, allowing him to help me to my feet.
He stares at me. “You went down hard.”
He said it that way on purpose. He must have.
“I’m fine,” I say. “I can walk home from here. It’s close.”
“Uh-huh. Drew will kill me.”
“He won’t kill you for offering to take my virginity?”
“Some things are worth dying for.”
Miles kneels, expecting my knees. But I’m more concerned with how short my skirt is and how close his head is to the hem.
“That’s a bad scrape,” he says. “You have a first-aid kit?”
“Yeah. At home.”
“I’ll bandage it.”
“It’s nothing.”
“I bruised plenty of knuckles in my day. I’m bandaging that.” He rises to his feet. His eyes meet mine. “Either we do it at your apartment, or we go to a twenty-four hour pharmacy.”
“I don’t need your help.”
“Consider it a perk of our mutual friendship.”
“Fine.” I get back in the car. My knee doesn’t hurt at all. And what the hell could he possible know about scrapes that I don’t? I’m an ER scribe. He’s a rock star. It’s clear which of us has the experience.

Untitled2Irresistibly Yours
Oxford #1
By: Lauren Layne
Releasing October 6, 2015
Loveswept
IY_CoverMeet the men of Oxford magazine! In the first captivating spin-off of Lauren Layne’s Sex, Love & Stiletto series, a not-so-friendly battle of the sexes turns into a scorching office romance.

Hotshot sports editor Cole Sharpe has been freelancing for Oxford for years, so when he hears about a staff position opening up, he figures he’s got the inside track. Then his boss drops a bombshell: Cole has competition. Female competition, in the form of a fresh-faced tomboy who can hang with the dudes—and write circles around them, too. Cole usually likes his women flirty and curvy, but he takes a special interest in his skinny, sassy rival, if only to keep an eye on her. And soon, he can’t take his eyes off her.
Penelope Pope knows all too well that she comes off as just one of the guys. Since she’s learned that wanting more usually leads to disappointment, Penelope’s resigned to sitting on the sidelines when it comes to love. So why does Cole make her want to get back in the game? The man is as arrogant as he is handsome. He probably sees her as nothing more than a barrier to his dream job. But when an unexpected kiss turns into a night of irresistible passion, Penelope has to figure out whether they’re just fooling around—or starting something real.

To say that Irresistibly Yours is cute is an understatement. Like I said at the beginning of this post, this book was wonderfully adorable and extremely heartwarming. Penelope and Cole’s relationship and how it progressed felt very real and genuine to me despite the circumstances of how their lives collided with one another. And adding the sports element to the book only elevated  it because you could see how much passion both Penelope and Cole had for it, making them obviously perfect for one another.
Penelope Pope is just a little bundle of joy which is very much accurate seeing as Cole gives her the nickname “Tiny” in the first part of the book. She is such a strong, capable women despite her size, going after what she wants with such force that you can’t help but admire her determination. Moving from Chicago to New York City because of Oxford’s sports editor position, taking that risk is an amazing feat for her along with the fact that she did her homework, so to speak, and knows almost everything about the world of sports and the athletes in it. I absolutely loved that Penelope and Cole meet because they are both competing for the position at Oxford because it just provides an amazing example of how a women can take on a male dominated world and make such an impact that she is chosen as a finalist for this highly coveted position. Her positivity and passion is what really shines through throughout the book.
And then there is Cole, who honestly has become one of my new favorite fictional boyfriends purely off the fact that he is so kindhearted and sweet. Yes, he is still a guy especially when he is checking out Penelope at the baseball game before he knew who she really was. But despite the remarks of him being a “ladies man” or “bachelor”, I really fell in love with Cole because of his heart and how he was so giving to Penelope even when she was the one thing standing in the way of him getting his dream job which would provide him with the means to take care of his brother. And then of course, there is the relationship he has with his brother which was so amazing to read considering Bobby’s circumstances (no spoilers, of course). Once you realize the extent of what Cole is doing to provide for his brother and the dependency they have on one another, your heart can’t help but flutter a little bit. All in all, Cole’s caring and loving heart takes center stage and leaving you desperately wanting to take Penelope’s place and have him fall in love with you instead.
The nature and progression of Penelope and Cole’s relationship is also another element that I loved because it was a perfect example of how a man and a women can be friends and comfortable around each other before romantic feelings kick in and take over. The ease and simplicity of their friendship was so great to see in the book because you couldn’t help but smile as they teased one another or talked/argued about sports especially since you knew that the tension building around their interactions was going to lead to something more than friends.
In spite of all that, there were some things about this book that became tiresome after awhile or didn’t play out the way I thought it would. Penelope’s feelings of not be worthy enough for a man like Cole to be interested in her was very much understandable to me because those feelings mimic the ones I have from time to time. They also connect back to that sense of “realness” that can be felt throughout the book allowing you to be able to connect with Penelope as a character. But once we get into the second half of the book, those feelings became redundant to me to the point that I wanted to physically shake Penelope and tell her she is good enough for Cole or any man for that matter and she needs to start acting like it. She does show that strength shortly after but I just thought it could have been dialed back a little bit more. I also expected the ending to be a little more grand in its execution just because their love for one another was so palpable for me but I realized that it again plays more towards that feeling of authenticity that this ending could very much happen in real life.
If you are looking for a romance that is genuine, pulls at your heart strings, and also makes you whole-heartedly fall in love with the characters then I suggest you pick up Irresistibly Yours. It shows you just how amazing it would be to find that person you are comfortable being yourself around but also the one you can call the love of your life. Despite how they met, Penelope and Cole are the perfect example of what it means to find your best friend AND your soulmate which is something truly magical to witness. Review:
Let me just start off by saying that this is my new favorite YA fantasy book. I do not normally pick up fantasy books but I can say, without a doubt, that out of the handful that I have read this one is up there at the top of my list. The characters, the impending romance (which I particularly enjoyed), and the plot set this book up to be an amazing start to Jennifer Anne Davis’s new series.
Allyssa, our protagonist, is fearless, sassy, badass, and passionate towards what she believes in and the people she cares for which sets the tone for the entire book because all you can do is just root for her and at the same time wish she was your best friend. Having a strong, ‘don’t get in my way because I am going to do what I believe in regardless of what may be right’ kind of female character was so empowering to read. Allyssa may be a princess and the heir to Emperion but quintessential princess she was not. She can fight, wield daggers, take down men twice her size, spar in hand to hand combat, fire a bow and arrow, and stand up for her beliefs in world where princesses are regarded to maintain an image and all of what was just mentioned is a direct violation of that image. She is also hilarious and her character seemed to jump off the page due to her larger than life personality. It was wonderfully refreshing to read about a female character who spoke her mind and could match the skills of almost any man in her life.
In addition to her relationship with Jarvik, which I will be touching upon shortly, I absolutely loved Allyssa’s relationship with her parents. Her parents did not take on the usual trope of insisting and/or deciding upon what Allyssa is and is not going to do in accordance to being the princess of Emperion. Yes, there were moments here and there, but that was purely because of the political aspect that comes up in the book in regards to the impending war that is going to happen against Russek. Even when her parents make it perfectly clear that, in order for peace and stability to remain in Emperion because of the raging war, Allyssa must marry Prince Odar of Fren, they still tell her more than once that if she is not comfortable doing this that is okay and that they will find another way to fight back against Russek. There was no ‘you must do this because we say so’ conversations and I found that to be so heartwarming because here you have a king and queen who care deeply about their daughter’s feelings and opinions despite the fact that it would be unbelievably beneficial and fortuitous if she married and solidified an alliance with this neighboring kingdom. It was also adorable to read their interactions because Allyssa and her parents tease and make fun of each other and have this very casual rapport with one another which was ususual because of the obvious fact that they were her parents. It was another anomaly of what you usually see in fantasy books and I welcomed it wholeheartedly.
Now, the relationship that I was the most invested in was Allyssa’s ‘I hate you… maybe I can trust you…oh, I might like you’ relationship with Jarvik who is Prince Odar’s squire and best friend. I honed in on this relationship from their very first interaction where you could spot the hostility and loathing from a mile away. Their banter in the beginning was so entertaining. I love when romantic relationships start out like this because you know that slowly but surely they are going to grow on each other and feelings will form. On top of that, the added “forbidden” aspect that Allyssa was supposed to be marrying the prince just made it even more intriguing. If the progression of a relationship like this is done right, you will be constantly wondering when are they going get together or admit their feelings or even have the ever important first kiss and this is something that I think Jennifer Anne Davis did SO well. Of course, my opinions may be a little biased because I am a sucker for romance but, as you slowly see them trust one another and take the daggers out of their eyes when they are together this train of thought of ‘when are they going to kiss?…. is it going to happen now?…. WHEN is it going to happen?’ starts to form. (I tend to be more vocal with these things so I instead yelled them out loud while I was reading.) Wanting to see what happened next between these two characters amongst all the other action and issues that arose is what fueled my desire to see how this story would end.
All in all, you have a kickass yet selfless female protagonist, a ‘will they, won’t they’ romance, along with action and suspense sprinkled in throughout the story, and a cliffhanger that makes you wish you had the next book ASAP. These elements add up to Cage of Deceit being an amazing, addictive, and fantastical read. If you like fantasy, I would highly recommend you check this book out. And, if you need something to pass the time while you wait for the next one, I would check out Jennifer Anne Davis’s other series, The Key, which is what I intend to do. It takes place in the same world as this one only from Allyssa’s parents’ perspective so you able to see their story and how it came about.

Summer Reading Goals Update

Seeing as it is almost halfway through September already and I haven’t posted on my blog in a month, it is more than obvious that this post is WAY overdue. But seeing as I am a huge fan of the phrase “better late than never”, this post is finally happening despite how late it is.

Before we get into the bulk of this post, let me back track to the beginning of the summer and the very first post that I published here on my blog. If you would like to check out that post, you can click here but, essentially I began my book blog with a post about my summer reading goals and what I wanted to accomplish this summer before I started grad school.

For the summer I set two goals for myself, one of which I automatically achieved by posting my first post. The two goals were:

1. Start a book blog (which obviously has happened since this and 15 other blogposts exist on my blog )
2. Read 30 books

Unfortunately I wasn’t not able to read 30 books this summer BUT I managed to read 20 books (5 of them were graphic novels) which I think is pretty darn good. Of course like any bookworm, I would have loved to have been able to read 30 books but the fact that I read 20 is still impressive to me.

I am going to break down the reading that I did this summer into each month that way this is also like a cumulative monthly wrap-up which, in my book, is like killing two birds or in this case multiple birds with one stone as I had planned on doing monthly wrap-ups this summer but obviously those did not happen either lol. (There will be a sneak peek of the first book I read in September because my summer “officially”ended the first week in September when I started grad school)
Also, along with each book will be what I rated them out of five stars.

JUNE (there are only 2 books because my summer “officially” started in mid-June)
All Fall Down by Ally Carter – 4/5 stars
Of Poseidon by Anna Banks – 3.5/5 stars

Song of Summer by Laura Lee Anderson – 4.5 stars
Bad Reputation

Saga Vol. 1
by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples – 4.5/5 stars
Saga Vol. 2
by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples – 4.5/5 stars
Amulet Vol. 1 by Kazu Kibuishi – 3/5 stars
Nimona
by Noelle Stevenson – 5/5 stars
Nearly Gone

Nearly Found
by Elle Cosimano – 5/5 stars
Beautiful Bombshell
by Christina Lauren – 4/5 stars
Beautiful Player
by Christina Lauren – 4.5/5 stars

SEPTEMBER (mini preview)
Beautiful Beginning by Christina Lauren – 4.5/5 stars

Total # of books: 20
Total # of pages: approx. 5,012

Looking at those stats, I am more than impressed with myself even if I didn’t reach my goal of 30 books. In terms of reviews for these books, I would love to be able to provide a review for all of them (another thing I was hoping to do this summer) but that is just unrealistic with the amount of work I have for grad school, my job, and all the wonderful things that will be happening on my blog in the next few months.

Instead, I invite anyone to comment down below if you liked any of these books, have read any of them, or would like to hear my thoughts on any of them.

Until next time… Happy Reading 🙂

Booktube-A-Thon Wrap-up

So this post may be super late, but nonetheless here is my Booktube-A-Thon 2015 wrap-up.

My expectations for this read-a-thon did not match up with reality as this is my first post since my Booktube-A-Thon TBR and when I posted my TBR I talked about how I would be doing daily updates/progress blogposts throughout the read-a-thon. Obviously that did not happen, nor did it happen for my last read-a-thon but that is an entirely different issue. Even though my expectations in regards to posting on this blog fell flat, I still managed to read 3 books and complete 3 challenges for the Booktube-A-Thon which I am very satisfied with. I am always ambitious with my reading for read-a-thons so it really should come at no surprise that I wouldn’t get to all the books I planned on reading for Booktube-a-thon considering I was on vacation with my family but that is only going to make me try harder for the next read-a-thon.

Here are the challenges and the books I planned on reading for each. Let’s see how I did:

1. Read a book with blue on the cover. The Veil by Chloe Neill
2. Read a book by an author who shares the same first letter of your last name Nearly Gone by Elle Cosimano COMPLETED
3. Read someone else’s favourite book Stolen Songbird by Danielle L. Jensen (Bekah AwesomeBookNut‘s favorite book)
4. Read the last book you acquired Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren COMPLETED
5. Finish a book without letting go of it This One Summer by Jillian and Mariko Tamaki COMPLETED
6. Read a book you really want to read Beautiful Player by Christina Lauren
7. Read seven books Beautiful Stranger by Christina Lauren

Total pages read: 850 pages

I enjoyed the books that I read but only one of the books really stood out to me as one that will be going on my favorites list. Here are my ratings for each of the books:

Nearly Gone by Elle Cosimano – 4.5/5 stars
Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren – 3/5 stars
This One Summer by Jillian and Mariko Tamaki – 3.5/5 stars

**Reviews for these books will be up ASAP**

If you would like to hear what I thought about any one of the books above let me know in the comments!

Overall, I enjoyed participating in the Booktube-A-Thon for the first time. I learned a lot of things that will help me when I participate in the next one, which of course I will be doing. Hope everyone else who participated had a good time as well!

If you did participate in the Booktube-A-Thon, leave a comment down below and tell me how you did, or what your favorite book was that you read. Mine was definitely Nearly Gone by Elle Cosimano. I am already reading the second book in this dualogy, Nearly Found, that is how much I loved it.

Until next time…. Happy Reading 🙂

Booktube-A-Thon 2015 TBR

It’s that time of year again… time for Booktube-A-Thon!!

Booktube-A-Thon is an annual read-a-thon that was created by the unbelievably energetic Ariel Bissett. She is an awesome booktuber on YouTube and I totally recommend that you check out her channel. This is the third year that Booktube-A-Thon has taken place and it is a very popular event amongst the booktube community. There is even a YouTube channel for this read-a-thon for anyone who is interested in participating and you can find that channel here. Ariel has done a wonderful job providing videos about the read-a-thon, the challenges, and who will be hosting throughout the week.

Booktube-A-Thon is happening from August 3rd to August 9th and I am so excited to participate. This will be my first year and I can’t wait to start reading and tackling those challenges. I probably have mentioned this a few times but I LOVE participating in read-a-thons and this one is no exception. In addition to the reading challenges for Booktube-A-Thon, there are also video challenges that are posted everyday for people to do. I am currently on vacation with my family in Cape Cod which is just perfect timing in regards to this read-a-thon because I will have tons of time to read but I do not plan on doing the video challenges. I think it will be too much and I don’t want to take time away from reading especially when I am going to be extremely ambitious to try and complete all 7 reading challenges.

The 7 reading challenges for this year’s Booktube-A-Thon are:

1. Read a book with blue on the cover.
2. Read a book by an author who shares the same first letter of your last name
3. Read someone else’s favourite book
4. Read the last book you acquired
5. Finish a book without letting go of it
6. Read a book you really want to read
7. Read seven books

Like I said above, I am going to be very, very ambitious for this read-a-thon. Amongst the books I have selected, I am attempting to read the first 3 books of the Beautiful Bastard series by Christina Lauren along with finishing Nearly Gone by Elle Cosimano which I am almost halfway through. Here are all the books I plan on reading:

1. Read a book with blue on the cover. The Veil by Chloe Neill
2. Read a book by an author who shares the same first letter of your last name Nearly Gone by Elle Cosimano
3. Read someone else’s favourite book Stolen Songbird by Danielle L. Jensen (Bekah AwesomeBookNut‘s favorite book)
4. Read the last book you acquired Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren
5. Finish a book without letting go of it This One Summer by Jillian and Mariko Tamaki
6. Read a book you really want to read Beautiful Player by Christina Lauren
7. Read seven books Beautiful Stranger by Christina Lauren

Unlike my last read-a-thon, I will be doing daily update blogposts.

See you tomorrow, and as always, happy reading 🙂

Blog Tour: THE VEIL by Chloe Neill

Today is an extra special post as Reaffirming My Bookworm Status is a spot on THE VEIL Blog Tour! Below is a little bit about the book as well as a few other goodies!

THE VEIL
by Chloe Neill
THE-VEIL-social-shareSeven years ago, the Veil that separates us from what lies beyond was torn apart, and New Orleans was engulfed in a supernatural war. Now, those with paranormal powers have been confined in a walled community that humans call the District. Those who live there call it Devil’s Isle.

Claire Connolly is a good girl with a dangerous secret: she’s a Sensitive, a human endowed with magic that seeped through the Veil. Claire knows that revealing her skills would mean being confined to Devil’s Isle. Unfortunately, hiding her power has left her untrained and unfocused… Liam Quinn knows from experience that magic makes monsters of the weak, and he has no time for a Sensitive with no control of her own strength. But when he sees Claire using her powers to save a human under attack — in full view of the French Quarter — Liam decides to bring her to Devil’s Isle and the teacher she needs—even though getting her out of his way isn’t the same as keeping her out of his head. As more and more Sensitives fall prey to their magic, and unleash their hunger on the city, Claire and Liam must work together to save New Orleans, or else the city will burn… (**Review coming soon**)
