BLOG TOUR: Cage of Deceit

Today will be the first of many blog tours that you will be seeing on my blog in the next few months. I am so thrilled and incredibly thankful to be a part of the blog tour for Cage of Deceit by Jennifer Lynn Davis hosted by Xpresso Book Tours.

This is a FANTASTIC YA fantasy you won’t want to me miss.

CageOfDeceitCage of Deceit by Jennifer Anne Davis
(Reign of Secrets #1)
Publisher: Clean Teen Publishing
Publication date: August 25th 2015
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult

Synopsis:
Jennifer Anne Davis’ best-selling True Reign series captivated readers from the very first page. Now, get ready to become entangled in the follow-up series, Reign of Secrets. In this new series, follow Allyssa, the daughter of the beloved Emperor Darmik and Empress Rema— and find out what happens after happily ever after.

Seventeen-year-old Allyssa appears to be the ideal princess of Emperion—she’s beautiful, elegant, and refined. She spends her days locked in a suffocating cage, otherwise known as royal court. But at night, Allyssa uses her secret persona—that of a vigilante—to hunt down criminals and help her people firsthand.
Unfortunately, her nightly escapades will have to wait because the citizens of Emperion may need saving from something much bigger than common criminals. War is encroaching on their country and in order to protect her people, Allyssa may have to sacrifice her heart. Forced to entertain an alliance through marriage with a handsome prince from a neighboring kingdom, she finds herself feeling even more stifled than before. To make matters worse, the prince has stuck his nosy squire, Jarvik, to watch her every move.
Jarvik is infuriating, bossy and unfortunately, the only person she can turn to when she unveils a heinous plot. Together, the unlikely pair will have to work together to stop an enemy that everyone thought was long gone, one with the power to destroy her family and the people of Emperion. Now the cage Allyssa so longed to break free from might just be the one thing she has to fight to keep intact. In order to save her kingdom, she will have to sacrifice her freedom, her heart, and maybe even her life.

Review:
Let me just start off by saying that this is my new favorite YA fantasy book. I do not normally pick up fantasy books but I can say, without a doubt, that out of the handful that I have read this one is up there at the top of my list. The characters, the impending romance (which I particularly enjoyed), and the plot set this book up to be an amazing start to Jennifer Anne Davis’s new series.
Allyssa, our protagonist, is fearless, sassy, badass, and passionate towards what she believes in and the people she cares for which sets the tone for the entire book because all you can do is just root for her and at the same time wish she was your best friend. Having a strong, ‘don’t get in my way because I am going to do what I believe in regardless of what may be right’ kind of female character was so empowering to read. Allyssa may be a princess and the heir to Emperion but quintessential princess she was not. She can fight, wield daggers, take down men twice her size, spar in hand to hand combat, fire a bow and arrow, and stand up for her beliefs in world where princesses are regarded to maintain an image and all of what was just mentioned is a direct violation of that image. She is also hilarious and her character seemed to jump off the page due to her larger than life personality. It was wonderfully refreshing to read about a female character who spoke her mind and could match the skills of almost any man in her life.
In addition to her relationship with Jarvik, which I will be touching upon shortly, I absolutely loved Allyssa’s relationship with her parents. Her parents did not take on the usual trope of insisting and/or deciding upon what Allyssa is and is not going to do in accordance to being the princess of Emperion. Yes, there were moments here and there, but that was purely because of the political aspect that comes up in the book in regards to the impending war that is going to happen against Russek. Even when her parents make it perfectly clear that, in order for peace and stability to remain in Emperion because of the raging war, Allyssa must marry Prince Odar of Fren, they still tell her more than once that if she is not comfortable doing this that is okay and that they will find another way to fight back against Russek. There was no ‘you must do this because we say so’ conversations and I found that to be so heartwarming because here you have a king and queen who care deeply about their daughter’s feelings and opinions despite the fact that it would be unbelievably beneficial and fortuitous if she married and solidified an alliance with this neighboring kingdom. It was also adorable to read their interactions because Allyssa and her parents tease and make fun of each other and have this very casual rapport with one another which was ususual because of the obvious fact that they were her parents. It was another anomaly of what you usually see in fantasy books and I welcomed it wholeheartedly.
Now, the relationship that I was the most invested in was Allyssa’s ‘I hate you… maybe I can trust you…oh, I might like you’ relationship with Jarvik who is Prince Odar’s squire and best friend. I honed in on this relationship from their very first interaction where you could spot the hostility and loathing from a mile away. Their banter in the beginning was so entertaining. I love when romantic relationships start out like this because you know that slowly but surely they are going to grow on each other and feelings will form. On top of that, the added “forbidden” aspect that Allyssa was supposed to be marrying the prince just made it even more intriguing. If the progression of a relationship like this is done right, you will be constantly wondering when are they going get together or admit their feelings or even have the ever important first kiss and this is something that I think Jennifer Anne Davis did SO well. Of course, my opinions may be a little biased because I am a sucker for romance but, as you slowly see them trust one another and take the daggers out of their eyes when they are together this train of thought of ‘when are they going to kiss?…. is it going to happen now?…. WHEN is it going to happen?’ starts to form. (I tend to be more vocal with these things so I instead yelled them out loud while I was reading.) Wanting to see what happened next between these two characters amongst all the other action and issues that arose is what fueled my desire to see how this story would end.
All in all, you have a kickass yet selfless female protagonist, a ‘will they, won’t they’ romance, along with action and suspense sprinkled in throughout the story, and a cliffhanger that makes you wish you had the next book ASAP. These elements add up to Cage of Deceit being an amazing, addictive, and fantastical read. If you like fantasy, I would highly recommend you check this book out. And, if you need something to pass the time while you wait for the next one, I would check out Jennifer Anne Davis’s other series, The Key, which is what I intend to do. It takes place in the same world as this one only from Allyssa’s parents’ perspective so you able to see their story and how it came about.

Summer Reading Goals Update

Seeing as it is almost halfway through September already and I haven’t posted on my blog in a month, it is more than obvious that this post is WAY overdue. But seeing as I am a huge fan of the phrase “better late than never”, this post is finally happening despite how late it is.

Before we get into the bulk of this post, let me back track to the beginning of the summer and the very first post that I published here on my blog. If you would like to check out that post, you can click here but, essentially I began my book blog with a post about my summer reading goals and what I wanted to accomplish this summer before I started grad school.

For the summer I set two goals for myself, one of which I automatically achieved by posting my first post. The two goals were:

1. Start a book blog (which obviously has happened since this and 15 other blogposts exist on my blog )
2. Read 30 books

Unfortunately I wasn’t not able to read 30 books this summer BUT I managed to read 20 books (5 of them were graphic novels) which I think is pretty darn good. Of course like any bookworm, I would have loved to have been able to read 30 books but the fact that I read 20 is still impressive to me.

I am going to break down the reading that I did this summer into each month that way this is also like a cumulative monthly wrap-up which, in my book, is like killing two birds or in this case multiple birds with one stone as I had planned on doing monthly wrap-ups this summer but obviously those did not happen either lol. (There will be a sneak peek of the first book I read in September because my summer “officially”ended the first week in September when I started grad school)
Also, along with each book will be what I rated them out of five stars.

JUNE (there are only 2 books because my summer “officially” started in mid-June)
All Fall Down by Ally Carter – 4/5 stars
Of Poseidon by Anna Banks – 3.5/5 stars

JULY
Song of Summer by Laura Lee Anderson – 4.5 stars
Bad Reputation
by K.B. Nelson – 3.5/5 stars
Mystery of the Moss-Covered Mansion
by Carolyn Keene – 3/5 stars
Castle Hill

Heart and Sole
by Miranda Liasson – 4/5 stars
Saga Vol. 1
by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples – 4.5/5 stars
Saga Vol. 2
by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples – 4.5/5 stars
Amulet Vol. 1 by Kazu Kibuishi – 3/5 stars
Nimona
by Noelle Stevenson – 5/5 stars
Nearly Gone
by Elle Cosimano – 5/5 stars

AUGUST
This One Summer by Mariko and Jillian Tamaki – 3.5/5 stars
Beautiful Bastard
by Christina Lauren – 3.5/5 stars
Beautiful Bitch

Beautiful Stranger
by Christina Lauren – 4/5 stars
Nearly Found
by Elle Cosimano – 5/5 stars
Beautiful Bombshell
by Christina Lauren – 4/5 stars
Beautiful Player
by Christina Lauren – 4.5/5 stars

SEPTEMBER (mini preview)
Beautiful Beginning by Christina Lauren – 4.5/5 stars

Total # of books: 20
Total # of pages: approx. 5,012

Looking at those stats, I am more than impressed with myself even if I didn’t reach my goal of 30 books. In terms of reviews for these books, I would love to be able to provide a review for all of them (another thing I was hoping to do this summer) but that is just unrealistic with the amount of work I have for grad school, my job, and all the wonderful things that will be happening on my blog in the next few months.

Instead, I invite anyone to comment down below if you liked any of these books, have read any of them, or would like to hear my thoughts on any of them.

Until next time… Happy Reading 🙂

Booktube-A-Thon Wrap-up

So this post may be super late, but nonetheless here is my Booktube-A-Thon 2015 wrap-up.

My expectations for this read-a-thon did not match up with reality as this is my first post since my Booktube-A-Thon TBR and when I posted my TBR I talked about how I would be doing daily updates/progress blogposts throughout the read-a-thon. Obviously that did not happen, nor did it happen for my last read-a-thon but that is an entirely different issue. Even though my expectations in regards to posting on this blog fell flat, I still managed to read 3 books and complete 3 challenges for the Booktube-A-Thon which I am very satisfied with. I am always ambitious with my reading for read-a-thons so it really should come at no surprise that I wouldn’t get to all the books I planned on reading for Booktube-a-thon considering I was on vacation with my family but that is only going to make me try harder for the next read-a-thon.

Here are the challenges and the books I planned on reading for each. Let’s see how I did:

1. Read a book with blue on the cover. The Veil by Chloe Neill
2. Read a book by an author who shares the same first letter of your last name Nearly Gone by Elle Cosimano COMPLETED
3. Read someone else’s favourite book Stolen Songbird by Danielle L. Jensen (Bekah AwesomeBookNut‘s favorite book)
4. Read the last book you acquired Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren COMPLETED
5. Finish a book without letting go of it This One Summer by Jillian and Mariko Tamaki COMPLETED
6. Read a book you really want to read Beautiful Player by Christina Lauren
7. Read seven books Beautiful Stranger by Christina Lauren

Total pages read: 850 pages

I enjoyed the books that I read but only one of the books really stood out to me as one that will be going on my favorites list. Here are my ratings for each of the books:

Nearly Gone by Elle Cosimano – 4.5/5 stars
Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren – 3/5 stars
This One Summer by Jillian and Mariko Tamaki – 3.5/5 stars

**Reviews for these books will be up ASAP**

If you would like to hear what I thought about any one of the books above let me know in the comments!

Overall, I enjoyed participating in the Booktube-A-Thon for the first time. I learned a lot of things that will help me when I participate in the next one, which of course I will be doing. Hope everyone else who participated had a good time as well!

If you did participate in the Booktube-A-Thon, leave a comment down below and tell me how you did, or what your favorite book was that you read. Mine was definitely Nearly Gone by Elle Cosimano. I am already reading the second book in this dualogy, Nearly Found, that is how much I loved it.

Until next time…. Happy Reading 🙂

Booktube-A-Thon 2015 TBR

It’s that time of year again… time for Booktube-A-Thon!!

Booktube-A-Thon is an annual read-a-thon that was created by the unbelievably energetic Ariel Bissett. She is an awesome booktuber on YouTube and I totally recommend that you check out her channel. This is the third year that Booktube-A-Thon has taken place and it is a very popular event amongst the booktube community. There is even a YouTube channel for this read-a-thon for anyone who is interested in participating and you can find that channel here. Ariel has done a wonderful job providing videos about the read-a-thon, the challenges, and who will be hosting throughout the week.

Booktube-A-Thon is happening from August 3rd to August 9th and I am so excited to participate. This will be my first year and I can’t wait to start reading and tackling those challenges. I probably have mentioned this a few times but I LOVE participating in read-a-thons and this one is no exception. In addition to the reading challenges for Booktube-A-Thon, there are also video challenges that are posted everyday for people to do. I am currently on vacation with my family in Cape Cod which is just perfect timing in regards to this read-a-thon because I will have tons of time to read but I do not plan on doing the video challenges. I think it will be too much and I don’t want to take time away from reading especially when I am going to be extremely ambitious to try and complete all 7 reading challenges.

The 7 reading challenges for this year’s Booktube-A-Thon are:

1. Read a book with blue on the cover.
2. Read a book by an author who shares the same first letter of your last name
3. Read someone else’s favourite book
4. Read the last book you acquired
5. Finish a book without letting go of it
6. Read a book you really want to read
7. Read seven books

Like I said above, I am going to be very, very ambitious for this read-a-thon. Amongst the books I have selected, I am attempting to read the first 3 books of the Beautiful Bastard series by Christina Lauren along with finishing Nearly Gone by Elle Cosimano which I am almost halfway through. Here are all the books I plan on reading:

1. Read a book with blue on the cover. The Veil by Chloe Neill
2. Read a book by an author who shares the same first letter of your last name Nearly Gone by Elle Cosimano
3. Read someone else’s favourite book Stolen Songbird by Danielle L. Jensen (Bekah AwesomeBookNut‘s favorite book)
4. Read the last book you acquired Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren
5. Finish a book without letting go of it This One Summer by Jillian and Mariko Tamaki
6. Read a book you really want to read Beautiful Player by Christina Lauren
7. Read seven books Beautiful Stranger by Christina Lauren

Blog Tour: THE VEIL by Chloe Neill

Today is an extra special post as Reaffirming My Bookworm Status is a spot on THE VEIL Blog Tour! Below is a little bit about the book as well as a few other goodies!

THE VEIL
by Chloe Neill
THE-VEIL-social-shareSeven years ago, the Veil that separates us from what lies beyond was torn apart, and New Orleans was engulfed in a supernatural war. Now, those with paranormal powers have been confined in a walled community that humans call the District. Those who live there call it Devil’s Isle.

Claire Connolly is a good girl with a dangerous secret: she’s a Sensitive, a human endowed with magic that seeped through the Veil. Claire knows that revealing her skills would mean being confined to Devil’s Isle. Unfortunately, hiding her power has left her untrained and unfocused… Liam Quinn knows from experience that magic makes monsters of the weak, and he has no time for a Sensitive with no control of her own strength. But when he sees Claire using her powers to save a human under attack — in full view of the French Quarter — Liam decides to bring her to Devil’s Isle and the teacher she needs—even though getting her out of his way isn’t the same as keeping her out of his head. As more and more Sensitives fall prey to their magic, and unleash their hunger on the city, Claire and Liam must work together to save New Orleans, or else the city will burn… (**Review coming soon**)

#CRUSHYOURTBR TBR

Oh look, I am doing yet another read-a-thon! It seems like all I do is read-a-thons these days but I can’t help it, I just love them. Not only are they fun if there are challenges to complete but also it gives you the opportunity to read as much as possible. For me, read-a-thons also act as a form of motivation to read because I can get distracted by other things aka Netflix. I am excited to start another read-a-thon even if this one is only 3 days long.

The read-a-thon that I will be participating in is #CRUSHYOURTBR (hint, the title of this blogpost totally gave it away already lol). #CRUSHYOURTBR is a monthly read-a-thon that is hosted by Raeleen, or padfootandprongs07 over on Youtube and Jacquelyn, who has a great blog called YA Bookmark. This month, the read-a-thon will be happening from July 17th to July 19th and if you want you can check out the read-a-thon’s Twitter account here. There are no challenges for this read-a-thon. Basically, if you could not already tell from the title, the purpose of this read-a-thon is to crush your TBR, or to-be-read pile. It gives readers a chance to try and make as big of a dent in their TBR pile as possible.

For me, my TBR is not a definitive number of books that I am trying to read because I add books to it almost everyday. If I were to be completely honest with myself, my TBR pile is never-ending because I want to just read as many books as I can for the rest of my life, and given the amount of new books that are written each year trying to have a set in stone TBR pile is impossible. So for read-a-thons like this one, I just focus on the books that are on my radar at that moment in time.

I am currently home spending time with my family and relaxing in my hometown so I did not bring that many books home with me. Of course, I have plenty of books I could choose from for this read-a-thon in my old bedroom’s library but instead I am going to focus on the books I was approved to read through NetGalley as well as a book I brought home with me that I picked up from the library back in Boston. I have chosen 3 books that I hope to read this weekend but I am leaving room for a 4th book just in case I do extremely well. A girl’s got to be ambitious right?

Here are 3 books I have chosen: (the 4th will be decided after I visit my second home tomorrow aka my town’s library)

1. Heart and Sole by Miranda Liaison
2. Nearly Gone by Elle Cosimano
3. Fairytale Beginnings by Holly Martin
4. *stay tuned – will be revealed tomorrow*

Unknown-2    Unknown-6    Unknown-8

I will be doing daily blogposts on my progress over the next 3 days so stay tuned for that especially since I will be revealing the 4th book I hope to read in tomorrow’s blogpost. If anyone is interested in participating, check out the read-a-thon’s Twitter page! You can also leave a comment here, if you want, so I can see who else is doing it.

Bye for now bookworms and as always, happy reading 🙂

#CRAMATHON Wrap-up

So, if you can tell by the title, this is not one of my daily progress blogposts that I was planning on doing for #CRAMATHON. #CRAMATHON is officially over, and due to the fact that I did not do daily progress blogposts for each of the 4 days I would say it was not my most successful read-a-thon. I mean, it was only the third read-a-thon I have participated in but still, this girl had some ambitious goals. Regardless of that though, I did get some reading in so it was not a complete loss.

From Day 1, I was ready to take on the challenges and do my best to complete ALL of them but then life decided to swoop in and make things a little more complicated. Sidetracked, my reading fell by the wayside for the almost all of the read-a-thon and if I had to guess I would say I read a total of 6 hours over the course of the last 4 days. But during those 6 hours, I was able to complete 2 of the 7 challenges and for that I am pretty pleased with myself. *gives myself pat on back* (Ok… technically I completed my second challenge after the read-a-thon ended but it was like 35 minutes past the end time so I am totally counting it given the very little reading I did overall during #CRAMATHON).

Now that I got that off my chest, let’s see how well I did, and I use the word “well” very lightly in this case, in regards to the challenges:

1. Read a children’s book Nancy Drew #18: The Mystery at the Moss-covered Mansion by Carolyn Keene red-checkmark
2. Read a hardback A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks
3. Read 2 books in 24 hours
4. Read a graphic novel The Iron King the graphic novel by Julie Kagawa
5. Read a book written in verse How to (Un)Cage a Girl by Francesca Lia Block
6. Read a novella Castle Hill: A Joss and Braden Novella by Samantha Young red-checkmark
7. Read 5 books total

Total # of books read/challenges completed: 2
Total # of pages read: 274

I managed to read one book and one novella which I have realized is pretty good considering all the things that decided to materialize in my life right after I started this read-a-thon. Both books that I read I enjoyed, because one brought me back to my childhood while the other let me see more of one of my new favorite book couples. Below are my ratings for each book:

Nancy Drew #18: The Mystery at the Moss-covered Mansion by Carolyn Keene – 3/5 stars
Castle Hill: A Joss and Braden Novella by Samantha Young – 5/5 stars

**Reviews for these books are pending at the moment. If you would like to see one for either of these books, please let me know in the comments below**

My expectations for this read-a-thon may have been set a little high, as I did not foresee what life was going to throw at me when I started it but in the end I still loved participating in another read-a-thon and like always I can’t wait for the next one. Till next time… Happy Reading 🙂

#CRAMATHON TBR

Time for another read-a-thon! It has been less than a week since I participated in READ-O-RAMA, but I had so much fun doing it as well as writing about my progress each day that I couldn’t pass up the chance to participate in another. #CRAMATHON is a read-a-thon created and hosted by Whitney over at WhittyNovels on Youtube. She is a wonderful booktuber and you should definitely check her videos out if you have the chance.

#CRAMATHON is a 4 day read-a-thon that was created to help readers cram in as many books as they can in an effort to lower their TBR piles or  help them reach their Goodreads challenge that they set for the year. WhittyNovels hosted this read-a-thon last Christmas so that whoever participated could get some last minute reading in to reach their goals before the year ended. Her approach to this read-a-thon is read books that are usually smaller or shorter in length that way you are able to read a lot in a short amount of time. Books like children’s books, graphic novels, novellas, or books written in verse tend to fit within these guidelines and you will see all of them represented in the books I have chosen below.

#CRAMATHON starts at 12AM (your time zone) on July 10th and ends at 11:59PM (your time zone) on July 13th. Like the other read-a-thon, there are challenges that have been created and I will be trying to complete them to the best of my ability.
Here are the 7 challenges for #CRAMATHON:

1. Read a children’s book
2. Read a hardback
3. Read 2 books in 24 hours
4. Read a graphic novel
5. Read a book written in verse
6. Read a novella
7. Read 5 books total

For some of these challenges, I actually have chosen two options so if I am able to read the 5 books selected to complete the challenges above, I will move on to, I guess what I will call, my extras.
Here are the books I have decided to read for the challenges:

1. Read a children’s book Nancy Drew #18: The Mystery at the Moss-covered Mansion by Carolyn Keene
6. Read a novella Castle Hill: A Joss and Braden Novella by Samantha Young
7. Read 5 books total

REVIEW: Song of Summer

Song of Summer by Laura Lee Anderson
Release Date: July 7, 2015
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Format: ARC Ebook
Where You Can Find It: Goodreads Ι Amazon
Quote: “The chemistry of music is like the chemistry of love, but they are not the same thing: two people can go hand in hand but that doesn’t make them the same person.”

**I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.**

Synopsis: TheUnknown thirteen qualities of Robin’s Perfect Man range from the mildly important “Handsome” to the all-important “Great taste in music.” After all, Westfield’s best high school folk musician can’t go out with some shmuck who only listens to top 40 crap. When hot Carter Paulson walks in the door of Robin’s diner, it looks like the list may have come to life. It’s not until the end of the meal that she realizes he’s profoundly deaf.

Carter isn’t looking for a girlfriend. Especially not a hearing one. Not that he has anything against hearing girls, they just don’t speak the same language. But when the cute waitress at Grape Country Dairy makes an effort to talk with him, he takes her out on his yellow Ducati motorcycle.

Told in first person alternating perspectives, language, music, and culture go along for the ride as Carter and Robin find their song.

I really enjoyed this book! It was a great summer read that provided me with an adorable romance but also shed light on a topic that I normally do not read about which is when a character is deaf. Through Carter’s perspective though, I was able to see how someone who is deaf lives in a world where being able to hear is a normalcy. It was even more amazing to see how open-minded and compassionate Robin was once she realized Carter was deaf. She respected Carter from the very beginning and went out of her way throughout the book to learn how to communicate with him using ASL while also defending him when the moment presented itself. It really surprised me how each character reacted to one another, given the obvious differences between them.

I mean, you have a girl who loves music surrounding herself with it any chance she gets and a boy who is deaf and not the biggest fan of hearing people. First thing that comes to mind is how are they going to be able to communicate or even connect with one another given the barrier that is in front of them. But what makes this book ooze with cuteness and delight is that from the very first encounter, both Carter and Robin do not let that be an issue using notepads to communicate with each other in addition to Robin becoming more and more familiar with learning how to sign  throughout the book. Seeing Carter’s reaction to Robin learning how to sign was wonderful because he was so appreciative and even shocked that she would go out of her way to do that. As the story unfolded and they became closer and closer to one another, it was like Carter and Robin went into this bubble and you couldn’t help but smile and be happy for them. Their romance is what any girl would want if they were to meet someone over the summer.

Robin and Carter’s romance is not the only thing I enjoyed about this book. I also loved how in depth a look the readers get at the deaf community through the eyes of Carter and his family. Carter’s family is one that I would love to actually meet because they are not your typical family yet they were so funny and so welcoming especially to Robin. Almost every member of Carter’s family is deaf except for his mother who is a CODA, or child of a deaf adult, and what is even more amazing is that Carter and his two sisters, Denise and Trina, were all adopted by their parents. In addition to that each child is of a different race and/or culture: Denise, Carter’s older sister, is Indian, Carter is either South American, Italian, or Greek but even he is not 100% sure, and Trina, Carter’s younger sister, has blond hair and blue eyes. Picturing them all together especially around the dinner table communicating with one another would be an experience I would love to see. The diversity in this family was such an amazing aspect to this story especially since one would probably visualize a family who is from New York City and vacations in the summer in a place like Chantauqua to be all white.

Despite the bliss Robin and Carter had when they were together, reality was still there on the sidelines as the format of the book counts down the weeks until summer is over. There were times when I couldn’t help but revel in that reality, noticing some things in the story that were my not my favorite. I realize that this was a summer romance and therefore the love story would be a whirlwind of emotions seeing as there was a possible end date in the near future, but I just think that Carter and Robin’s love for each other happened a little too quickly in the story. Also, because you know that it is a summer romance, the plot was a bit predictable towards the end. Regardless of that though, the ending of this book left me oddly satisfied and filled with a lot of hope.

Song of Summer is a great book to pick up, especially in the summer, because it tells an adorable, lighthearted story of two people who meet and despite their differences, fall for one another. Not only that but readers get a eye-opening perspective into the deaf community and how they are perceived by those who can hear. I would definitely go check out Laura Lee Anderson’s debut novel, Song of Summer!

READ-O-RAMA Wrap-up

READ-O-RAMA is officially over, which is sad, but now it is time for me to do my wrap-up on the books that I read, the challenges I was able to complete, and more.

This the second read-a-thon that I have participated in and I had a lot of fun participating on Twitter as well as reading the books I had chosen. I was not able to complete all the challenges that they created but the amount of reading I did do was great!

Looking back at my TBR for this read-a-thon, I said that it would be amazing if I could complete all 7 challenges. But, I also realized that I might not be able to do that due to other things going on in my life.
In any case, here is how things went down:

1. Read 7 books (maybe) *7th book – The Murder Complex by Lindsay Cummings
2. Read a middle grade book: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
3. Read a fantasy: Of Poseidon by Anna Banks red-checkmark
4. Read a book with blue on the cover: All Fall Down by Ally Carter red-checkmark
5. Re-read a book: Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover
6. Read a book that makes R-A-M-A using the title/author: Before Jamaica Lane by Samantha Young
7. Read an e-book or an audiobook: Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist! by Kay Marie Song of Summer by Laura Lee Anderson red-checkmark

Total # of books read/challenges completed: 3
Total # of pages read: 884

I am really happy with the amount of reading I got done for this read-a-thon even if I didn’t read all the books I had planned on reading. The books I did read, though, I enjoyed a lot. Reviews for all three books will be up on this blog ASAP but here are my rating for each of them:

All Fall Down by Ally Carter – 4/5 stars
Of Poseidon by Anna Banks – 3.5/5 stars
Song of Summer by Laura Lee Anderson – 4/5 stars

**Check out my daily blogs for each day of the read-a-thon to see my thoughts of these books as I was reading them**

I had so much fun doing this read-a-thon and I can not wait for the next one! I hope you enjoyed seeing me document my progress over this past week because I will probably be doing it for the next read-a-thon I participate in. Till next time… Happy Reading 🙂
